The Mount Holly Community Center is supported by the MHCA.

Originally a Methodist Church, the building was completed January 3, 1884.

  • Since being deeded to the Town of Mount Holly on August 6, 1914 it has been the home of the Mount Holly Library.

    • The original Library was in the dark, somewhat dank basement, along with a partitioned room that was used for Cub Scout and Boy Scout storage and meetings.  The downstairs was also turned into a Haunted House many Halloweens.

  • The main level served as the venue for Mount Holly Town meetings until 1988, and was also used for general meetings, concerts, Halloween parties, and plays performed by the Mount Holly Summer Players under the direction of Agnes Leicester. It was also used for Children’s Summer Reading programs.

  • When Town Hall meetings were moved the building fell into disrepair. William O’Connor, Jim Osbourne, and a group of Mount Holly citizens formed MHCA to restore the building for community use.

  • In 2008 the main level was redone to house the Mount Holly Library. Some of the original pews were sold to help fund this work while others were incorporated in the updated building.

  • The beautiful chandelier was removed and restored by stained glass master William O’Connor who lived in town.

  • Other renovations included:

    • Fixing the slate roof and painting the building to reflect its original color scheme.

      • Authentic stenciling on the walls and ceiling were provided by local artist Nancy McKeegan

      • The Mount Holly Library also gained new bookcases.

      • A new bell was placed in the bell tower thanks to a private donation.

    • Recently, through major fundraising efforts, the MHCA has renovated the lower level creating the Mount Holly Community Room including:

      • Adding the building’s first ever bathroom. Until this renovation there was no running water which was always a problem at town functions.

      • Creating meeting and party space with a small kitchen for community use

    • A well was drilled in 2020 to provide a permanent water source for the building.
